At 5 feet and 185 pounds, is it safe at this weight and size to have breast reduction surgery?

Q:

I want very much to have a breast reduction.  For several years my doctor has told me to lose weight.  Although I have tried, I always seem to gain it back.  I am tired of having such large breasts.  They cause my back to be in pain and I find it difficult to exercise.  Would it be safe to have the breast reduction surgery now at my present weight and size?

A:

Yes, it is safe to have a Breast Reduction at your height and weight provided precautions are taken to prevent post operative adverse events. Members of the ASAPS are well trained and quite familiar with these preventive measures.

Best,

Gary Culbertson, MD, FACS
