Breast implant on left side gone wrong, incision will not heal & fluid leaking post op 11 w

Q:

I had breasts done 11 weeks ago. On the first night had excruciating pain on left side. When stitches taken out 8 days later incision wasn't closed and fluid came out there is no visible signs of infection. Incision was stitched & glued neither worked. Incision is still open and implant is showing through it feels like all implant is sitting on incision line. Implant is being removed this week. Any idea why this has happened? Other side is perfect over the muscle textured implants.

A:

I am so sorry to hear about your untoward event of implant exposure following breast augmentation. This event can occur for many reasons such as infection, hematoma, seroma, etc. The bottom line is the implant must be removed and the area of surgery explored/ examined. Normally, various cultures for bacteria, fungus, etc. are done at the time of your explantation. Best,
