After breast removal and implants went in tearing occured uder the breast causing sores.

Q:

Tearing under the breast occurred causing large open wounds, after surgery 3 different times. Dr. put her on antibiotics. Is this normal? Is the skin pulled too tightly after surgery?

A:

Without knowing exactly what was done and what you mean by "tearing," it is hard to say exactly. However, wound problems are common after breast reconstruction. Antibiotics are also appropriate to keep any germs from getting to the implant. The skin could be pulled too tightly or it could be an intrinsic blood supply problem. An exam and more information is needed to determine this.

A:

I agree with the previous answer, but think if this complication has occurred three times, a thought should be made regarding removal of the implants and repeating the reconstruction some months in the future. The choice of the procedure would be decided by you and your board certified plastic surgeon.
