Chin fillers after or before orthognathic surgery?

Q:

I am getting orthognathic surgery next summer and I would also like to get chin fillers as well to improve the look of my chin. Should I get the filler before or after the orthognathic surgery?

A:

Nina,

You should make absolutely sure all the filler is absorbed by your body BEFORE your Orthognathic Surgery. Personally, I would avoid any fillers before your once in a lifetime surgery. Best,

Gary R Culbertson, MD, FACS

A:

There should be no need for fillers after orthognathic surgery as it should correct your problem. If you wish to use a filler to improve the problem before surgery, make sure the injector is an expert and that the filler used will be gone by the time you have the surgery to enable the surgeon to accurately correct the problem.
