Is it common practice for technicians to close incisions on eyelid surgery?

Q:

Is it common practice for technicians to close incisions on eyelid surgery?

A:

I imagine in cosmetic eye lid surgery, a plastic surgery resident may close the wound.

If you are asking if a surgical technician can close a surgical wound, the answer is NO. This is not part of their job description.

Unfortunately, in our present day McDonalds Health Care delivery System such actions are becoming more common. Always be sure to make sure you ask your surgeon if fellows, residents, students , PA’s, NP’s or OR Tech’s may be assisting with your procedure/ surgery.  Most plastic Surgeons will disclose this information to their patients BEFORE surgery. Best,
