How effective are non-surgical liposuction techniques?

Q:

How effective are non-surgical liposuction techniques like "Cool sculpting", " Zerona" & "Zeltiq"?

A:

Coolsculpting and Zeltiq are the same thing. The technique involves freezing fat for a permanent localized effect. Another proven technology is Liposonix, which uses high-intensity focused ultrasound. This is also effective at permanently reducing localized fat. None of the nonsurgical technologies do as much as liposuction. I have not seen any convincing evidence that Zerona produces a long term effect.

A:

CoolSculpting by Zeltiq is very effective for the elimination of unwanted fat. Coolsculting is FDA cleared for the removal of fat with no down time. In my Raleigh CoolSculpting center, we have two Coolsculting fat fraeezing systems and therefore can provide fat removal on both sides, muffin top area, arms, or legs at the same time.

Zerona didn't seem to ever to have results or stiudies that were particularly impressive.

A:

This is a great question and a very hot topic.  I personally think the Zerona is a joke, sorry. I looked at it very carefully.  The Coolsculpt i have and have had it performed on myself.  It does work but best for localized fat deposits and not overall weight reduction.  If you have a fair amount of fat tissue then liposuction may be more cost effective.  There is also Tru Sculpt as well which is based on heat.  I pefer Coolsculpting.

A:

There are non-surgical fat removal procedures there are effective in the appropriate patient: Vanquish which uses focused controlled radiofrequency, Zeltiq (Cool sculpting) which uses a freezing technique, and Liposonic which utilizes ultrasonic energy. Most plastic surgeons have not found Zerona to be reliable or effective long term.

While these methods may be beneficial, none of them are for weight reduction and none of them produce the same result that can be achieved with liposuction.

I would suggest that you find a plastic surgeon that you are comfortable with and one that you trust and listen to his or her advice. The surgeon should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person.
