Can Fraxel be used to fade fresh scars?

Q:

Can Fraxel restore be performed on scars that are still pink?  Will it help fade the redness or make it worse?

A:

NO, Fraxel is being sold to patients for scars, skin tightening, improving skin pigmentation, improving skin quality, etc.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.  I have not seen any scientific peer reviewed articles to support any of these claims.

A:

In my practice we use the V-Beam laser, a pulsed dye laser for patients beginning three weeks after surgery to help accelerate the healing of scars. We also recommend the use of topical silicone gel patches or gels.  Self massage of the incision area is also recommended.

Always follow the post-operative instructions of your plastic surgeon
