Can I have implants put in if I had reduction 9 yrs ago?

Q:

Want implants but had reduction 9 yrs ago.

A:

It should be OK but, help your surgeon by obtaining a copy of the operative report from the facility/ hospital where the breast reduction was performed. Practitioners are usually only required by the government to keep medical records for 6 years. The type of breast reduction you had many years ago could affect how best to perform your breast augmentation. Please consider one of the many members of the ASAPS to assist you. They are experts in re-operative breast surgery. Best,

Gary R Culbertson, MD, FACS

A:

Nine years after a breast reduction there should not be a problem having your breasts enlarged with breast implants. The blood supply should have adequately reestablished to allow for a safe good result. You should consult with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to guide you through the process. There a several other issues that you should have addressed. What is the shape of your breast, where are and of what quality are your scars, where are your nipple areola complexes located and what size implants you desire. All these need to be considered before scheduling surgery.
