What kind of doctor can treat this?

Q:

Had 10 year old implants removed just 12 months ago. They were beautiful, but risks were high of implant leakage. Had same surgeon remove, lift and replace implants. Unfortunately, very different results. Ongoing pain, varicose veins forming clearly inside right breast as well as nipple inversion of same.

A:

I think there is a myth that breast implants have to be removed, changed every 10 years. This is not true, If there is no problems with the implants, capsule, shape , anesthetics, there is no need for surgery to change the implants. Breast implants can be followed by examination, MRI, Mammograms, and when a problem arises it can be addressed.

The fact that you had breast lift with exchange of implants imply that the anesthetics were changing and that the breast was sagging.

The pain in association with varicose veins appearing on the breast may indicate mondor's disease.

Which is a benign process and can be treated with anti inflammatory drugs.

Check with your surgeon, or consult a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for a second opinion.

A:

I am a bit concerned that you would have breast implants removed because of "Possible Leakage." It sounds like you developed breast ptosis or sagging of the breast from ageing, weight loss/ gain or pregnancy and wanted a breast lift. Most likely the implants were exchanged at the time of the procedure secondary to their age.

The combination of a breast lift at the time of augmentation or removal/ replacement of breast implants can have a somewhat higher than normal complication rate. Recovery is longer than that a normal augmentation, stretch marks or veins on the breast can become more visible, breast asymmetry can be more common, etc. These things are normal events. Inverted nipples are not a normal occurrence after such a procedure. Consider a consult with a one of the many members of the ASAPS. They are experts in Breast Surgery. Best,
