Large belly after Tummy Tuck

Q:

I had a Tummy Tuck 4 years ago and never had a flat stomach after the surgery. I had drainage in for a long time and after it was removed, I still went to my doctor for weeks to get the fluid pulled out. I have this big belly which bulges out below my breasts and some pain below my belly button, like if something is pulling. I look like if I am 6 months pregnant. I don't know what happened. My doc says it's maybe the shape of my body, but I don't agree. Can you help me with some advise, please ???

A:

You are probably very correct. This does not seem right. It sounds like you developed a chronic seroma following your abdominoplasty. A non-invasive study like an MRI or CT Scan with oral contrast would help delineate your issue. Obtain your operative report, any office notes and labs from your original surgeon for your records. Then, consider taking these materials to a member of the ASAPS for a second opinion. Best,
