How long does a saline breast augmentation last?

Q:

How long does a saline breast augmentation last?  I had mine done in Mar 1993 by Dr. Harvey.

A:

The longevity of breast implants vary by the type, manufacture and surface design of the implant. Perhaps a better question is “When do breast implants need to be replaced. ” The most common answer is when they deflate (saline) or rupture (silicone). Most practitioners do not recommend simply removing and/ or replacing breast implants based upon there duration of implantation. Consider consulting one of the many members of the ASAPS to address your concerns. Best,

A:

The old breast implants were very durable and many have lasted as long as they have been around. The new breast implants are even more durable. However, part of the durability depends on the technique of inserting the implant. Therefore, pick a surgeon who has a revision rate of less than 3% and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

A:

Longevity of Saline Implants – Saline and silicone implants both have significantly high safety in records with the FDA. However, all human made implants have a life span of about 10-15 years. The goal is to be followed by your plastic surgeon on an annual basis. One of the advantages of saline over silicone implants is that if they rupture you will know immediately because they will deflate versus with silicone gel implants it is not so obvious.
