Having had Lyme disease two years ago, can I have Liposuction of my stomach area now?

Q:

I had Lyme meninges two years ago which still shows up in my recent blood test.  Is it safe for me to have liposuction of the abdominal area now?

A:

Lyme disease is a bacterial process that can become chronic. You should first make sure your Post-treatment Lyme disease Syndrome (PTLDS) is stable before any elective surgery. Consider discussing your concerns with the practitioner (Infectious Disease Doctor) that is treating you for your condition. Consider asking for pre-operative clearance. You certainly do not want a recurrence of the Disease.
