If I am on methadone, is a tummy tuck and liposuction possible?

Q:

I had a quote for a tummy tuck and liposuction for my sides and I was making payments to have this procedure. But when I told them I was on methadone, they said they could not perform the procedure and in order to go thru with it, I would have to be off of methadone for TWO YEARS! I don't have two years, I want this done now! Do you know of any place or doctor who can give me this procedure even though I'm on methadone?

A:

In general surgery can be performed on patient who are on methadone. However care must be taken with the use of opiates, and opiates antagonists. The major issue then is how to manage patient post operative pain management.. That must be coordinated with a pain management physicians and the addiction manager physician. It also requires a cooperative patient .
