Is it normal for fat to settle on top of a tummy tuck scar 13 years after the surgery?

Q:

I had a tummy tuck 13 years ago and after all of this time, it seems a small amount of fat has settled on top of the scar.  This makes a small bulge.  Is this normal and can it be fixed?

A:

Yes, that can happen over time. This can easily be fixed with liposuction in the office.

Sincerely,

Adrian Lo, MD

A:

Yes, fat can appear over a tummy tuck scar. This commonly happens with C-Section patients as well. Liposuction may fix the excess fat.

A:

Fat can reaccumulate in the abdomen after a tummy tuck. However, this is easily removed with in-office liposuction.
