Can pregnancy cause sharp shooting pains in breasts that had breast reduction surgery in March, 2012?

Q:

I had breast reduction surgery in March, 2012.  Could becoming pregnant now cause sharp shooting pains in my reduced breasts?

A:

It is possible to have pain in the breasts after breast reduction surgery as the breasts enlarge during pregnancy. This is from stretch of the scar or pulling on nerves that were enfolded during the reduction surgery. This should go away with time. If it does not, talk to your obstetrician.
