Price of Surgeries Outside of US

Q:

Does it matter where in the world you pay for plastic surgery?

A:

Yes, it does. You want to consider having your surgeon avliable to you in the post operative surgery especially, if you are considering an extensive procedure such as a facial rejuvenation or abdominoplasty. When someone operates upon you and fails to fall up on your post operative care we call this iternerate surgery. It is not a good practice and is strongly discouraged by most professional surgical society’s.  Medical-Legal issues of abandonment fallowing an iternerate surgical procedure can occur especially, if you have an unfavorable outcome or untoward event. In short there is much more involved in cosmetic surgery than just the surgery itself.,

DO YOU HOMEWORK BEFORE YOUR SURGERY. Is the practitioner Board Certified by the American Board of Medical Specialist (ABMS) like the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS)? Does the surgeon have hospital privileges to perform the same procedure they are performing upon you? Is their facility accredited by one of the three national organizations for outpatient surgery like Quad A? Are you in this office because of an advertisement or have you actually checked out the surgeons experience, backgroung and training.

The easy solution is to choose one of the many members of the ASAPS in your local area. They meet and/ or exceed all the criteria I have listed. Best,

A:

There are good plastic surgeons in most parts of the world. For cosmetic surgery, I would advise checking to see if your surgeon is a member of ISAPS, (ISAPS.org) the international sister society of ASAPS. It can be very problematic however to travel overseas for surgery and not have access to post operative care when you return home. Short-term savings can translate into long-term costs later on.
