Rhinoplasty two years after nasal flap surgery

Q:

I had nasal flap surgery on the left and top of my nose. The doctor used ear cartilage to help reshape my nose. My question is can I have a rhinoplasty? I am very unhappy with my nose.

A:

I am not sure but, it sounds like you have had some attempt at reconstructive surgery for a nasal wound/ defect such as occurs with the removal of a skin cancer or trauma? If so, I would consider addressing the deformity left by your previous surgeon with one of the many members of the ASAPS. They are experts in Restorative Surgery.

Consider requesting your operative reports from your previous surgeon. This information/data will be essential at the time of your consult in determining what course of action would be most appropriate in your case.

Best,

Gary R Culbertson, MD, FACS

A:

There are many flaps used to correct a nose defect left after trauma or surgery. Local and distant flaps. You are left with a nose that you do not like. Some of these abnormal shapes can be addressed and corrected, some aspects of a "deformity" cannot.

Please have a consultation in person with a BOARD CERTIFIED PLASTIC SURGEON (AMERICAN BOARD OF PLASTIC SURGERY).
