Can skin resurfacing on the knees lighten dark knees?

Q:

I'd like to find a solution to even the skin tone on my knees to the rest of my leg color.  My knees are darker.  What type of surgery/treatment would fix this? I've tried creams, without results.

A:

Lightening areas other than the face -

There are a number of technologies, including prescription creams, that can modify color of the skin. Which one is best depends on what causes the discoloration. You need a consultation with a physician with experience in treating skin discolorations in order to decide what is best for you.

The answer to this question depends on your own skin color, and the diagnosis about why your knees are darker.

Without knowing these details, it's a little hard to answer your question ...but I suspect my first line of treatment would involve some prescription-strength bleaching creams.  (There are a number of varieties, even if some of the ones you have already tried weren't successful.)

All the best,

In addition to bleaching creams (try looking for formulations that include kojic acid) avoiding sun exposure is imperative.  Keep the skin covered whenever possible or when in the sun use a sunblock with full spectrum protection, and of course avoid tanning beds.
