Can skin resurfacing smooth the raised areas from a hair transplant?

Q:

Many years ago I had a hair transplant and am now thinking of shaving my head.  I have some small bumps where the hair was implanted.  Can skin resurfacing remove the bumps or make them smoother?

A:

You are correct in your ideas.  Where hair is transplanted, you can get a little "pin-cushion effect" --bumps as you say.  If you choose to shave your head, those bumps can be dermabraded down.  another option would be to "recycle" those hairs into areas where you need them (if you were to choose not to shave your head in the future). .  A lot of the healing may depend on your skin type and skin color.
