Is smartlipo effective for Breast Reduction ?

Q:

Good Day! I am 25 years old , healthy and have no excessive fat in my body. I am in a good shape but my breast is DD sized and I would like to reduce its size because it is not proportional with my body and causes me some problems. I would like to check if the smart lipo on breasts would solve my problem and what are better options ? Many thanks :)

A:

Yes, liposuction of the breast can be performed as a method for breast reduction providing the patients skin envelope is taught and healthy. SmartLipo is a Laser Assisted Liposuction procedure that sometimes results in shrinkage of thinner skin like in the neck and medial arms. These types of procedures are not covered by insurance carriers. Please consider a consult with one of the many members of the ASPS to help assist you with your concerns. They are experts in Laser and Breast surgery. Best,

I would advise great caution before deciding on liposuction breast reduction. While any liposuction technique can remove fat from the breasts and make them smaller, the issue is shape and lifting. When breasts are reduced in size, any sagging will be made worse. The extra skin tightening with laser-assisted lipo such as "Smart Lipo" is minimal. It would of course be very appealing to avoid the scars from a breast lift but please do your homework on this.

SmartLipo Does Not Work – SmartLipo really is not an optimal procedure for any type of body contouring procedure including a breast reduction. Traditional liposuction in selected patients may be useful for a breast reduction, but only where the patient’s expectations are to have a mild decrease in breast size and shape. I usually reserve this for patients that are in the older age group that are not surgical candidates and also for those who are very young that do not want to have scars, but the results are less than optimal.
