Studying Abroad After a Breast Reduction

Q:

I'm getting a breast reduction surgery around May 16th. I am hoping to study abroad my fall semester of junior year in Australia. This would mean that I would leave the U.S. around July 17th. Is it safe for me to go that far away that soon after surgery, or would it be better for me to go during my spring semester?

A:

You are most likely only going to have this procedure once in your lifetime. Travel 8 to 12 weeks following a breast reduction should be fine providing you have no complications. It would be safer to delay your trip to Australia if you can. Consider discussing your concerns with your surgeon first before you make a final decision. Best,
