Can a tram flap reconstruction be converted to implants?

Q:

I had a tram flap reconstruction in 2006, (right side with a small implant on the left to match the size) since then the tram flap side has sagged and does not match at all now. Is it possible to have the tram flap removed and replaced with implants?

A:

Sure, what you are suggesting can be done but, more commonly a scar revision of your existing breast structure might be performed to produce the best appearance and symmetry. Then, enhancement of the breast could be performed with a breast implant at the same time or at another setting. Please consider a consult with one of the many members of the ASPS. They are experts in Reconstructive/ Restorative Breast Surgery. Best,
