Is it safe to have a tummy tuck and lipo done at the same time. If so, is it safe...

Q:

Is it safe to have a tummy tuck and lipo done at the same time. If so, is it safe to go home the same day of the surgery and not stay overnight in the hospital?

A:

In general it is safe to do a Tummy Tuck and Liposuction at the same time.

It will depend on your health status, your age, and your level of comfort. You need a complete history and examination, full blood work, electrocardiogram, and chest x-ray when indicated.  Your internist will have to clear you for general anesthesia and surgery. Your surgeon as well as the anesthesiologist at the surgical center have to review your history during a physical examination. All have to agree that you are a good candidate for the surgery, the type of anesthesia used, and that it can be done as out-patient surgery.

If you prefer to do the surgery at a hospital, then ask for that option.  Be aware that surgery at a hospital and an overnight stay may cost you more.

Discuss all these options with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and then make your decision.

A:

The safety of each procedure depends on the patient's medical condition, length of the surgery and the surgeon's skills.  You need to discuss your concerns about safety with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.  If you are a good candidate, lipo and tummy tuck can be done as an out patient procedure.

A:

Generally speaking this is a reasonable plan.   It will depend on the amount of liposuction, the length of your overall procedure, and your medical condition.

A:

Although not everyone agrees with the practice, there is a good amount of data now to confirm the safety of combining abdominoplasty with a reasonable amount of liposuction on an outpatient basis for healthy patients.  It is important to make sure that the procedure is done in an accredited facility by a qualified Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

A:

I usually do my tummy tucks as an outpatient. During the procedure, I also do liposuction,  many times of the thighs. Since it is in the same area, it can easily be combined by not adding any more scars. The recovery should not be prolonged.  I do offer my patients the ability to stay overnight in the hospital if they prefer.  I have a special rate so it is quite reasonable. We do offer excellent financing with special pricing going on right now.
