What is a typical recovery time after abdominal liposuction?
I have lost about 70 lbs but, despite diet and exercise, my spare tire and love handles are stubbornly refusing to go away (to be fair, I've always had love handles - even when I was young and very skinny). What would typical recovery time be after abdominal liposuction before returning to work in an office environment?
If you have lost this much weight there is probably significant skin as well as fat that needs to be contoured to produce a more appealing appearance. Therefore, liposuction is most likely only part of what you may require. For a male lipoabdominoplasty you should be back in the office setting as quickly as one week. Heavy activity or exertion such as golf, tennis, horse back riding most likely should be delayed for at least 4 to 6 weeks post operatively. Consider a consult with one of the many members of the ASAPS to address your concerns. Best,

Congrats on the weight loss, and it sounds like you understand the role of liposuction for reducing localized fat pockets that don't respond to diet and exercise. Although no one can give specific advice without seeing you personally, in general liposuction requires reasonably good skin tone for good results, and this is often a problem after large weight loss. In that instance, technologies such as laser lipo do not add enough tightening to make a meaningful difference either.
Congratulations on your weight loss. Liposuction will take care of your "Love Handles." Unfortunately, Liposuction will not take care of the "spare tire." The only way to get rid of this, especially after a 70 lb. weight loss, is with a full Abdominoplasty. The liposuction will not slow you down. However, the abdominoplasty will keep you off work about two weeks. You will be tired and not able to function at full capacity for about 1-2 months.
