Will a weight of 215 pounds keep an insurance company from paying for breast reduction surgery (I'm size 40G)?

Q:

I am 52 years old, 5'6" and weigh 215 pounds.  I have weighed as much as 239 pounds but have lost 20 pounds in the past six months.  My bra size is 40G.  Will my weight keep my insurance company from paying for breast reduction surgery?

A:

This is a question that your insurance carrier should be able to answer for you over the phone. Give them a call and ask them to address your concerns.  Insurance plans vary widely on the coverage of breast reductions.  For some it is not a covered service.

Best,

Darla,

Each insurance company and plan have different provisions on coverage so you would be best to direct the question to the member services department at the insurance company.
