Board Certification

I am Board Certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and have been since 1999. Board Certification means the physician has graduated from an accredited medical school, completed at least five years of additional Plastic Surgery residency training, practiced plastic surgery for two years and then passed a series of comprehensive written and oral examinations.

Professional Background

I graduated with my degree in medicine from the University of Western Ontario in my home country of Canada. After completing residency training in general surgery and then plastic surgery, I completed two more years of highly-specialized subspecialty fellowship training. I first completed a year of training in microsurgical cancer reconstruction at the internationally renowned M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. I then completed another year of advanced aesthetic surgery and breast surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Florida.

Following my advanced fellowship training, I was hired to the faculty of the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. During my three years of practice in San Antonio, I served as the Chief of Breast Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery and was the associate program director for the plastic surgery residency program. There I trained other surgeons in the highly specialized art and skill of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Hobbies and Interests

Dr. Gupta lives in San Diego with his wife and two children. His interests include golf, surfing, tennis, scuba diving and marathon running.
