University of Alabama Birmingham (1987) Completed the regular core courses and electives. Also conducted a research study into the acute changes in the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) parameters of cardiac tissue immediately after excision.

Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering - Purdue University (1981) Masters thesis topic was the study of flashback in premixing/prevaporizing gas turbine combustors. The thesis consisted of both experimental and analytical work. Awarded Outstanding Fellow Research Assistantship.

NATO Study Fellowship - von Karman Institute de Dynamic des Fluides (1981) Attended the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics in Brussels, Belgium. Research grant focussed on the study of lasers and laser doppler velocimetry.
