In his leisure time, Dr. Houston scuba dives, snow skis, practices Tae Kwon Do and is a karate black belt. He is also a licensed pilot.

He and his wife Theresa are very actively involved in the lives of their children, Courtney Howell, Jessica Leigh, Christopher Scott (Kit) and the youngest Michael Wyatt.
