Q:
Is there a procedure that can remove the scarring after a breast lift?
Is there a procedure that can remove the scarring after a breast lift? I am referring to the appearance of scars that remain after the surgery.
A:
Once a scar is in the skin, it cannot be removed but the appearance of it can be improved. This may require a revision surgery or different topical treatments to make the scars less visible. Check with a board certified plastic surgeon regarding your options.

Q:
Can I have a third blepharoplasty done at the age of 79?
I had my first blepharoplasty done at age 45, and the second one three years go. My eyelids are now sagging again. Is it advisable to have a third procedure done now at age 79?
A:
A direct exam would be needed to see why you may need a repeat procedure so soon after your last surgery. It may be you need a brow lift instead of a repeat upper eye lift. Additional eye lid surgery may worsen dry eye symptoms, which everyone has to some degree as we age. It can't hurt to have a second opinion with a board certified plastic surgeon to be sure all bases are covered.
Q:
What would be the recovery time period in the Dominican Republic for a Mommy Make Over?
I'm planning on traveling to the Dominican Republic for a Mommy Make Over and also a butt enhancement. How long would I need to stay there for my recovery period?
A:
I tell my out of town patients I want them to spend 3 weeks after surgery in Boston so I can be sure they have healed well and I am able to deal with any potential problems. The surgeon who operates on you is responsible for your recovery and this should not be passed on to another doctor. In fact, you may find it difficult to find another doctor to take over care of you should any problems arise.

Q:
Should I be concerned about a trans-areola augmentation affecting breastfeeding?
I had my breast implants with a trans-areola incision which I have regretted all my life. I am now pregnant and extremely worried about complications with breast feeding. I want to know is it just a matter of being unable to breast feed or are there other issues like milk rotting in the glands because it cant flow? What can I do to avoid risks?
A:
The trana-areolar incision likely have interrupted some of the milk ducts in your breasts but there are many more which will function correctly. The ducts affected by the surgery will atrophy and the milk will be absorbed. To minimize the risk of infection (mastitis) developing during breast feeding (something to avoid as it can lead to capsular contracture), be sure to consult with a lactation specialist on how to keep this from happening.

How long should swelling and numbness last after a face and neck lift?
A:
The amount of swelling and the extent of numbness you experience after your facelift will be dependent on the type and extent of the facelift procedure your surgeon performs. Most swelling has subsided by approximately 2 weeks but the final resolution of all swelling is at about 2-3 months. Numbness can take longer to fully resolve, up to 6 months.
