i am 33 yrs old, i have been working out and watching my diet for 2 yrs now. I am 5'2" and 160lbs, wear a size 12. December 2008 was a turning point for me... my husband & I weighed ourselves & I was @ an alltime high of 186lbs! Since that day, i have been careful with my diet & have been working out. I am VERY embarassed about the fact that my chin and my neck have no separation in any photo, I have the double chin. I see this in some family members also. Also, since breastfeeding 2 children, there is a noticeable difference in the left and right breast. Other concerns are that my upper arms are very large and the iliopsoas/groin area are still very flabby and larger than I would like. So, I / my husband were wondering how feasible would all this be for us to "fix" all of this if I continue to work toward a healthier weight . Thanks, Ally

You are young and healthy so in all likelihood if you decided to have multiple procedures they could be done at one setting. Ideally, you should hit a steady state in your weight, then consider plastic surgery. Remember though, surgery will get you 50% of the way there. The other 50% will require diet, exercise and lifestyle changes for you to realize your best possible result.

How much is a consult? Are payment plans worked out through your office? Are there combos for different services, such as breast augmentation and liposuction?
A:
The answer to this question will vary from office to office. Some physicians charge for a consultation, others don't. We do. Payment plans and credit/loans are often done by outside companies and banks. They require an application process and of course an approval process. Again, some offices may utilize these services while others may not.

Is breast reduction performed as an out patient? If in patient, how many days?
A:
Breast reduction certainly can be done as an outpatient. If the patient has other risk factors, for example, sleep apnea, then we may elect to keep her overnight.

A close family member, age 62, is considering tummy tuck, liposuction to abdomen, flanks, arms and inner thighs. She is on hormone therapy. Not obese but probably 25% over ideal weight. Surgeon has proposed all can be done under general anesthesia in about 5 hour surgery. What should be done ideally to prevent risk of blood clots after surgery?
A:
Any procedure we do places us at some risk for blood clots. Your family member has a couple of factors that increase her risk: age, the use of hormone replacement and the procedure. We know that patients who undergo abdominoplasty with liposuction are at least a seven fold increase in risk compared to some of the other procedures we do. Her doctor may elect to stop her hormones prior to her surgery, get her moving the day of her surgery, and even consider using "blood thinners" around the time of surgery. Unfortunately, we don't have much data in plastic surgery guiding us right now.

What is the average price for liposuction of the hips and thigh area?
A:
There are three things involved in the cost of a procedure: facility fees, anesthesia fees, and surgeon fees. That being said, the cost will definitely be related to how much needs to be done but could range between $3-7000 total.
