I weigh 328 lbs. and my belly is big and I just want to know should I lose weight first before a tummy tuck?
A:
Yes, losing weight is a coarse tool. Weight loss is a coarse tool. You cannnot pick where the weight can come from. Excessive fat is stored inside the abdomen. Tummy Tuck muscle and fascia tightening, cannot compress this excessive tissue. The fat will push right back stretching tissues again. Weight loss typically results in loose skin and sagging connective tissues. It also makes no sense to tighten tissues, lose weight, and then end up with tissues to tighten again. If your weight loss will result in tissues that are tight, then skip the surgery done too early and save the money.
For my patients I suggest that they get to a weight they are comfortable with before considering surgery such as Tummy Tuck. Then wait until the skin adjusts as much as it will (this can take from 6 to 18 months).

How much would a tummy tuck cost without insurance?
A:
Cosmetic abdominal sculpture comes in many different forms and degrees of difficulty. MiniTuck Abdominoplasty is for smaller problems. The Tummy Tuck surgery category can encompass a wide variation of deformities. Revision Tummy Tuck Surgery is in its own class of problems. The cost of surgery also needs to include if hospitalization is needed and what down time is needed. Our Tumescent Tummy Tuck is done under local anesthesia with heavy sedation as an outpatient.

Are the stomach muscles always repaired during a complete abdominoplasty? What would be the point in not repairing the muscle?
A:
Almost all patients needing a Tummy Tuck suffer from both loose skin and a loose abdominal wall. Muscle Tightening is the sculpture to the abdominal wall. If the abdominal wall was not loose nor if there were no Diastasis Recti (stomach wall muscles spread apart), nor hernia present, then the deeper sculpture would not be needed.

I am 48 years old and have a pretty good shape. I'm 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weigh about 136 pounds. I have an ugly 4 1/2 inch vertical scar below the belly button from C-sections. The first three C-sections were cut in the same place. The fourth was a bikini cut. (It's hardly noticeable.) I am considering a tummy tuck. I do have a small pouch. Will I have to get the full tummy tuck with a cut horizontally from one end of my hip to the other near the pubic area or might I be a candidate for a mini-tuck with a shorter incision?
A:
MiniTuck Abdominoplasties are for mini problems. Loose skin cannot be pulled out through a small incision. Here is an example of a failed minituck disaster caused by another surgeon trying to tighten skin around the belly button and minituck alone. Now that problem solution for Revision Tummy Tuck was complicated by the additional burn scars. For most Tummy Tuck surgery, the incision can be nicely hid under very modest underware or bikini swimwear. That probably would have been the case if the wrong surgery had not been attempted first. How far that lower incision needs to go varies depending on the problem to be sculpted. The true nature of the deformity, surgical sculpture, and scars can be best evaluated with Videos Before and After Tummy Tuck Surgery.

Is there any kind of cosmetic surgery that can pull back ears?
A:
Otoplasty Ear Surgery can take many forms. One type is a pinback sculpture. However, different elements of the ear anatomy may be causing the projection. The art of ear surgery sculpture is analyzing the correct problem and then being able to sculpt that element or elements involved.
Hope this helps.
