Practice Philosophy

At the root of every patient’s pursuit of cosmetic surgery is the desire for acceptability. It is a basic and intrinsic drive to be esteemed as attractive, for attractiveness draws attention and possibly, even love. In the same vein, to be unattractive means to be deficient and, to some extent, virtually repulsive and maybe unloved. Hence, when a patient first walks into my office with a quest for cosmetic surgery, my primary goal is to search for the patient’s innermost motivation for the change. It is just as vital for me, if not more vital, to assist the patient in rediscovering his or her inner beauty as we conquer with a scalpel the perceived flaws on the outside. As eyes tend to lie as they only see the surface, I want the heart to see more of the change, hoping to slice out the body image that creates negative feelings in a person. This ultimate outcome leads to love of oneself with an ensuing re-emergence of self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-acceptability, thereby improving one’s relationship to others. I seek, therefore, an outcome that is based on a restoration of the wholeness of my patient by integrating the innermost reasons for the desired procedure in reasonable proportion to the patient’s expectation, taking patient safety into optimal consideration.
