Dr. Richard Bensimon was born and raised in the northern Patagonia of Argentina and immigrated to the United States at the age of 10. He attended college at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and graduated with High Distinction having majored in Anthropology.
Dr. Bensimon graduated for the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor having attained Honors in Thoracic, General, and Plastic Surgery. He completed a full General Surgical training at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, the hospital center of Columbia University. He completed a Plastic Surgical Fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center in New York.
Prior to starting his Plastic Surgery Fellowship, Dr. Bensimon volunteered at a Cambodian refugee camp in the Thai/Cambodian border. He practiced and taught surgery to the Cambodian staff.
Since completing his training in 1987, Dr. Bensimon has been active academically including frequent national and international presentations and publications in prestigious journals and textbooks.
Publications and Presentations
Dr. Bensimon is honored to have written a chapter in one of the most prestigious textbooks of plastic surgery, “The Art of Aesthetic Surgery: Principals and Techniques, Second Edition, Edited by Foad Nahai.
He also wrote a chapter in the leading aesthetic surgery text for the Spanish speaking world,
“Cirugia Plastica, Reconstructiva, y Estetica” Edited by Felipe Coiffman. He has also published an article in the leading publications Aesthetic Surgery Journal, the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and The Annals of Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Bensimon teaches yearly at the national Aesthetic Meeting and has presented extensively both nationally and internationally on chemical peeling, eyelid surgery, face lift surgery and rhinoplasty.
Hobbies and Interests
Dr. Bensimon enjoys collecting fine wines and partaking in gourmet food. He enjoys the vibrant film and music culture of Portland, Oregon. He is a skier, small boat sailor and scuba diver. He is an avid traveler, and particularly enjoys interaction with his foreign plastic surgery colleagues.
