I want to have a full tummy tuck. Is the patient always sent home the same day after this procedure with a pain pump or do some patients require an overnight stay? I am a waitress - how long before I can go back to work?
The post operative care after abdominoplasty varies with the comfort level of the patient and the surgeon. I generally request my patients remain in the surgical facility overnight. I find transferring the patient home immediately after surgery is stressful and painful. The overall experience is far better and safer when cared for by a professional in the first 12 hours after surgery.
I prefer local pain medicine used during the surgical procedure to pain pumps after surgery. If pain is prevented during the procedure it does not escalate after it.
I would allow 2 weeks before returning to work and would make arrangements for someone to transport the heavy trays until you are more comfortable.
I am 64 years old and underwent radiation for a 3 mm cancer from calcification found in my left breast. Prior to and during this time I worked out and ran training for a triathlon. I lost a lot of weight, and now in July, my cheeks on my face have suddenly become large deep wrinkles when I smile. I feel as though I can never smile again because of these wrinkles. I had a beautiful cheeky face before. What can be done to restore them? Would fat injections be the route to follow?
You have a few options, surgical and nonsurgical.
Fat transfer is a good option for you but it is a surgical procedure requiring anesthesia and a recovery period.
Sculptra is a synthetic filler which the body converts into your own natural collagen and will last beetween 18 months and 2 years. This can be done in an office setting.
Both procedures may require repeat treatments.
Find a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in your area who offers both to decide which is the best treatment plan for you.
I know after breast augmentation, you should wear loose fitting shirts (button down). For how long should this be done?
This restriction is only necessary in the first weeks of healing while it is uncomfortable to raise your arms above your head. Once the discomfort resolves there is no reason to continue limiting your wardrobe.
I will ask my patients to avoid an underwire bra for the first 4-6 weeks after surgery but that is the only garment restriction lasting beyond the immediate operative experience.
I am interested in forehead contouring! I have two bumps slightly above my eyebrows. What kind of procedure would be needed to take care of this problem?
The bumps you mention can be a variety of things which might require different treatments.
If the bumps are just off the central forehead above the brow, they are most likely prominent muscles. If they are firm, they may be bony growths or prominences. Soft tissue fullness may be fat or fatty tumors.
A browlift via an open or endoscopic approach would allow the diagnosis and treatment of many of these issues. However, consultation with a plastic surgeon would allow evaluation of these masses and proper treatment planning.
I am 18 years old and have problems with the weight of my breasts. At what age can I consider having breast reduction surgery?
My criteria for reduction surgery in your age group is that there be minimal change in the breast volume for a period of six months. If your breast volume has been stable over this period of time, you are a candidate for the surgery now.
