Q:
At age 18, and size 42 F bra, am I a good candidate for breast reduction?
I am 18 years old. I weigh 200 pounds, am 5'9" and wear a size 42 F bra. I have bad posture, back pain, neck pain, and shoulder pain. I have been professionally fit for a bra. I wear the professionally fit bra plus two more bras for a total of three bras everyday. I have seen an orthopedic doctor and a chiropractor for my back, neck, and shoulders and they both have recommended for me to have a breast reduction. I also see the chiropractor 2-3 times a week. Am I a good candidate for a breast reduction?
A:
From your description, but without personally examining you and discussing this more fully, you would seem to be a candidate for a breast reduction. You need to see a plastic surgeon who is a diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) for a thorough consultation. At that time you should discuss your motivation and desired outcome, be physically examined, and learn about the benefits as well as any possible complications of the procedure. Following that, you can make a more informed decision about whether a breast reduction is reasonable for you.

Q:
Is it it possible to fix a fat lip with plastic surgery?
I got punched in the lips and now one side of my lip is a bit bigger than the other side. Is it possible to make my lips symmetrical again?
A:
Yes it is possible. Scars and swelling settle over 6 months to a year. I would suggest waiting until then for any possible surgical procedure. See a plastic surgeon who is a diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) for a consultation and advice about massage of the area, sun screen and the options of treatment.

Q:
Am I too old for a neck lift alone?
I am 48 years old and in excellent health and physical condition. What bothers me most about my appearance are the vertical bands in my neck which I understand are the platsyma muscles separating with age. I am nervous about getting a face lift and wondered if a neck lift alone might give me good results.
A:
Am I too old for a neck lift alone?
A neck lift alone can often make someone look younger, better and thinner. However, not everyone will get a pleasing result with a neck lift alone, no matter what technique is performed, and there are a number of variations of how to perform a neck lift. Many patients will get a better and more harmonious result with a well performed natural appearing face and neck lift.
Whether you are a candidate for just a neck lift depends on your desired outcome, expectations and individual anatomy: platysma separation, skin tone, extent of skin laxity, and how much jowl drooping exists. The best approach is to have an examination and consultation with a plastic surgeon who is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. That will give you an opportunity to discuss the positive and negatives of the various alternatives, so you can make a fully informed decision.

Q:
How long does it take to recover from a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction?
Usually how long does it take to recover from a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction?
A:
How long does it take to recover from a tummy tuck or liposuction?
Recovery times are variable from patient to patient and they depend on the extent of the procedure. Small areas of liposuction may take only a weekend to recover, while suction of multiple areas and larger volumes may take 1-2 weeks.
Tummy tuck recovery also depends on the extent of the procedure. A modified tummy tuck has a shorter recovery time than a full abdominoplasty plus liposuction, which usually takes about two weeks to resume sedentary work and 3-4 weeks to return to other activities like exercise.

What is the best age for a woman to have a facelift?
A:
What is the best age for a woman to have a face lift?
There is no ideal age for a face lift. It depends on genetics, individual anatomy and when the degree of aging concerns a patient enough to do something about it. Generally, patients who have a face lift in their 40’s or 50’s get a better, longstanding result than those who wait until later in life, although older patients can still get a significant improvement. Sometimes, a lesser procedure like fat injections alone can give a significant improvement if there is no significant skin laxity.
