I want to know if there are different cuts for a tummy tuck that can be done, such as on the left and right side of the belly button. Also, can a tattoo cover the scarring from this?
A:
An abdominoplasty, or tummy-tuck, is usually performed with a low, bikini line incision from hip to hip. There are instances when a shorter incision is used for a mini-abdominoplasty, and longer incisions for an extended abdominoplasty or a belt lipectomy. Some patients may choose to camouflage their scar with a tattoo.

I am looking into breast augmentation but I want more information on areola reduction surgery. Are all ASAPS Board Certified surgeons capable of performing this procedure? Can you recommend a cosmetic surgeon in South Carolina for my procedure? Thank you!
A:
It is possible to undergo an areola reduction concurrent with a breast augmentation. There may be some limitations due to the size of the areola, the amount of skin laxity that exists, as well as the size of the implants chosen. All ASAPS members should be capable of performing this for you if you are an appropriate candidate. You can find an ASAPS member in South Carolina in the "Find a Surgeon" section of www.surgery.org. How much do breast implants generally cost?
A:
The cost for breast augmentation can vary across the country as well as within a given community. Costs will also vary depending on whether silicone or saline implants are chosen. In general, the total cost for silicone breast augmentation will vary between $6,000 - $10,000 and for saline between $5,000 - $9,000. Do not let cost be your driving factor however as it is very important to choose the right plastic surgeon.

My insurance will pay for a breast reduction. I also want to have a tummy tuck which is not considered medically necessary. What is the cost of a tummy tuck and can both procedures be done at the same time?
A:
Depending on your overall body habitus and overall health, it may be possible to perform both a breast reduction and an abdominoplasty. Costs are quite variable across the country and even within the same community. You should consult with several plastic surgeons who are ASAPS members to get several opinions. Good luck.

I was diagnosed with Lupus ten years ago and I suffer from having low platelets. I had a bone marrow test done in March and everything was fine according to my hematologist. I've had two c-sections and I healed fine. Would I be a candidate for a tummy tuck and a breast lift in the Dominican Republic?
A:
As with any procedure, each patient has a certain situation that must be assessed individually. Having lupus does not automatically mean you may not be an appropriate candidate. You should seek the advice of a reputable Board Certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate your individual needs and coordinate any other medical issues with your other physicians to help you achieve a result you may be seeking.
