Practice Philosophy

The decision to have cosmetic surgery is a very personal one and each person considering cosmetic surgery is unique. Dr. Steven J. Smith and the staff of Parkwest Plastic Surgery strive to provide a personal and individualized approach to cosmetic surgery. Just as each person is different, so too is the individual's desired outcome for cosmetic surgery.

Important to the individual experience is communication. This includes discussing and understanding the patient's desired results and planning treatment options that include time-tested techniques, as well as the most current techniques of cosmetic enhancement.

Surgical Facility

Cosmetic procedures are most frequently performed in one of two convenient, private, licensed and accredited outpatient facilities. Surgical and recovery staffs in both facilities have been personally trained by Dr. Smith to provide the best possible care for our cosmetic surgery patients. Anesthesia care is provided by board-certified anesthesiologists.

Dr. Smith is a member of the medical staffs of the major hospitals in Knoxville and any of these facilities may be used for more complex cases or those requiring overnight stays.

Consultation

The focus of the cosmetic consultation is communication. The consultation begins with a discussion of the patient's cosmetic concerns and desired results. A thorough medical history is taken and a physical examination is performed by Dr. Smith. Surgical and non-surgical options for achieving the patient's desired results are then presented by Dr. Smith. Pre-operative and post-operative photographs of other patients with similar concerns are viewed during the discussion. The patient is encouraged to ask questions throughout the consultation. Pre-operative photographs may be taken during this initial visit.

The goal of the consultation is to provide the best and latest information about the cosmetic options Dr. Smith and the staff believe will help the patient achieve the desired results.
