I had a lumpectomy a couple of years ago due to DCIS. Is it safe for me to have breast augmentation after having this condition? Will it make it more difficult to pick up any irregularities in my mammograms?
A:
Data suggests that there is no higher incidence of breast cancer or worse breast cancer at the time of diagnosis in people with breast implants as long as you get whatever views are necessary (i.e. oblique or Ekland views). Also, the use of MRI may be helpful in assessing for breast cancer especially if you choose silicone gel implants. The FDA recommends obtaining an MRI in three years and every two years thereafter for the life of the silicone gel implants to assess the integrity of the implant shells.

What is the best filler for beginning marionette lines? I have had three treatments of Sculptra but still do not have the results I desire.
A:
For beginning marionette lines, I feel that the use of Juvederm is a good place to start. For deeper folds or lines, I would consider using Radiesse.

I am going to have bariatric surgery. What can I do before the surgery to reduce the chance of having to have plastic surgery afterwards. I cannot afford plastic surgery but I don't want to look like a freak with hanging skin, etc. after the bariatric surgery. Are there payment plans for procedures to improve my body image, if needed?
A:
The amount of loose or hanging skin you develop after your bariatric surgery will depend on how much weight you lose and how your skin contracts. Chances are, you will have some loose skin as most post bariatric surgery patients do. There are a variety of financing options available. You would need to check with your plastic surgeon to see what they offer.

How soon after having breast reduction surgery is it safe to travel out of state. I will be having breast reduction surgery around the 28th of March, give or take a week. I need to travel out of state April 16th. Is this too soon after the surgery to be travelling?
A:
Your ability to travel out of state two weeks after breast reduction surgery would depend on how well you were healing and if you could avoid having to do any strenuous activity like carrying luggage.

I am a 20 year old athletic women looking for larger breasts. I am currently a size small B and want to be a full C. What is better, subpectoral placement of implants or not?
A:
For someone that is small breasted to start with, there are advantages to placing the implants submuscularly. First, the more coverage (breast tissue) you have, the less likely you'll feel rippling or knuckling of the implants. Second, data suggests that there is less risk of capsular contracture (hardening) of the implants when the implants are placed under the muscle. Third, it is easier to mammogram and see the breast tissue when the implants are under the muscle. However, irregardless of the position the implants are placed, one should get whatever mammographic views are needed to make sure the breast tissue is adequately visualized. Bottom line, you don't want to miss a breast cancer, so get whatever views you need.
