Q:

Exercising after submuscular breast augmentation

I usually go to the gym, I'm not into bodybuilding, I just want to improve my physique and condition. Is there any problem with exercising after a submuscular breast augmentation? How about chest exercises like bench presses, pushups, butterflies, etc. Is it better not to do them anymore? Thanks

A:

After submuscular breast augmentation I generally have my patients wait 6 weeks before performing the chest exercises you have mentioned. I have found that displacement of the implants is less common after this waiting period.

Q:

Picking breast implant size

Is it normal practice for a plastic surgeon to have their patients and office staff pick out the size of the implant without giving his or her input?

A:

During your consultation, the your doctor will evaluate your breast tissue characteristics and measure the  dimensions of   ofofthe breasts.  From this analysis the physician will make a recommendation on implant size.  In my practice the patients input is welcomed and used in making a final decision.  In addition I have the patient try on a range on implant sizes that are appropriate for their dimensions. In your case,  I would seek a second opinion.

Q:

Need smaller implants to correct botched augmentation 10 yrs ago

In 2000, (25 y/o) I got 850cc implants (DD). They are uneven, hurt & look very odd, I am forced to wear baggy shirts. My skin is tight & I have no fat in my breasts. I was AA before my augmentation. Is it possible to have them removed and replaced with smaller implants or even remove them all together? Since 2000, I have had 4 women in my family (2 passed away) from breast cancer and Anthem won't cover the mammogram. Very concerned, very scared and very unsure of what to do with limited funds.

A:

I am sorry to hear you are disappointed with the results of your surgery.  I would recommend you have a consultation with a Board Certified plastic surgeon in your area.

Q:

I was injected with Botox a week ago and see NO results at all - should I be reinjected?

I am 54 years old and had Botox for the first time a week ago.  I was injected above my brows to elevate them and get rid of lines between the brows.  I was also injected around my eyes for crows feet.  I have seen NO results at all!  I am fully able to move all facial muscles.  Should I be reinjected?  Do I have antibodies?  Would it be fair for me to pay for that?  I feel that I have spent $750 for nothing.

A:

It is uncommon not to see any results after 2 weeks.  I would wait 1 more week.  If there are still no results I would return to the physician's office for an evaluation.  I hope you were treated by a Board Certified physician, preferably a Plastic Surgeon or Dermatologist.

Q:

Could I have my saline implants punctured to see if I would be happy with my own breasts or maybe go to a smaller implant?

I have saline breast implants.  I would like to have them punctured by a plastic surgeon to see if I would be happy with my own breasts (unaugmented) or if I should maybe go to smaller implants.  If they are punctured, would they leak into the capsule and seal up right away so that I could not truly  judge what size I would be?

A:

Yes you can have your implants deflated by puncturing them with a needle.  This would give you an idea of what your breasts would look like without implants once they are completely deflated.  You will still need additional surgery to remove the implant shell or replace the deflated implants with a different size.  If your implants have not been in place for very long, your breasts will probably appear as they did before surgery.  There is a good possibility if your breast implants are aged, or you have gone through pregnancies, that the breast volume or skin elasticity has changed and this may need to be addressed.  I would recommend a consultation with your plastic surgeon to discuss your options.
