Board Certification

After 20 years of extensive medical and surgical training, Dr. Pousti is double board certified in General Surgery as well as Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. While Dr. Pousti had studied and performed the fine art of plastic surgery, he understands that there are constant advances in plastic surgery technology and has incorporated the latest cutting edge advances into his daily practice. 

Professional Background

Dr. Pousti attended undergrad at UCSD, where he graduated first in his class, magna cum laude. He received his M.D. degree at the University of California Irvine. At U.C. Irvine College of Medicine, Dr. Pousti was awarded the Alpha Omega Alpha Society Scholarship Award, which required him to be in the top 5% of his medical class. In 1990 he was awarded the Excellence in Surgery Award, and in 1994 he received the “Resident of the Year” Teaching Award. After five years of General Surgery Residency at UC Irvine Medical Center, Dr. Pousti did a two year Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Harvard in Boston, Mass.

Hobbies and Interests

Dr. Pousti strongly believes in giving back to the community. He has volunteered at the VA hospital, and has gone to Guatemala to perform surgical procedures for the residents that were in need.

Dr. Pousti is a native of San Diego, where he grew up. His father is a retired Plastic Surgeon who practiced in San Diego for over 25 years. Dr. Tom Pousti has been married for 19 years to his wife Marjan. Together they have 4 children, 3 boys and 1 girl. He enjoys playing soccer, beach volleyball, reading, playing the piano and also coaching his son’s recreation soccer teams.
