Botched plastic surgery procedures lead to multiple charges
February 22, 2011
Many people aspire to enhance their beauty through plastic surgery, but by failing to take the time to do background research on a surgeon, an individual may not only have bad results, but be putting their lives in danger.
According to the New York Post, police arrested Hector Cabral, 51, for allegedly luring women from salons and spas throughout New York City to do on-spot consultations and then scheduled them to fly to the Dominican Republic for surgery. He was finally taken into custody after botching a procedure on a woman, who suffered substantial pain, scarring and permanent disfigurement.
The Attorney General’s office has compiled four other cases against him and has tracked victims of his illegal surgeries back to 1999.
In a number of cases, patients were left disfigured and endured large amounts of pain following their procedures. Individuals who took advantage of Cabral's practice were most likely enticed by the low prices of his services, according to the news provider.
A former patient of Cabral told the news source that he performed liposuction on her, and after the procedure, she suffered a near-fatal infection.
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery warns choosing doctors based on price alone and advises caution when having surgery overseas.
