Chinese breast augmentation surgery broadcasts live online
April 7, 2011
Over the weekend, a live video of a Chinese student from Guangxi University undergoing a breast augmentation procedure appeared online, shocking many in the medical community. The one-hour video was posted on the website of the clinic that conducted the surgery, Huamei Cosmetic and Surgery Clinic, in Nanning, according to ChinaDaily.com.
The video appeared on the website March 18, and though the woman's breasts are blurred, some believe the censorship did not go far enough. Additionally, many medical professionals voiced concern when the hospital released the young woman's identity.
However, the patient had agreed to have her cosmetic surgery recorded and broadcast online. "I believe the medical procedure will achieve better results with public supervision," she told the news source.
Doctors at the clinic agree - they say that their aim in releasing the video was to educate the public about the procedure, and help answer any questions potential patients may have when considering breast implants.
