Doctor facing legal action, suspension after mistreatment of patients
January 10, 2010
A physician in Encino, California, is facing serious allegations stemming from the mistreatment of two patients, one of whom died. Dr. Ehab Aly Mohamed has been ordered not to perform any plastic surgery, use lidocaine or prescribe any narcotic analgesic until a board can review the charges, The Encino Patch reports.
The order to halt such procedures comes from the Medical Board of California, which claims that Mohamed, among other violations, mislead patients into believing he was a professor at Harvard Medical School. He would then ask them to participate in a fake study where he could charge a discounted price for procedures in order to convince them to comply.
The board is seeking to suspend his license and in a press release criticized his "grossly negligent care, incompetence, and the lack of medical judgment he displayed in his care and treatment of two patients, resulting in one death."
The serious allegations follow the death of a 61-year-old patient who underwent a day-long liposuction treatment. The victim's family filed a wrongful death suit soon after the tragedy, CBS affiliate KCAL reports.
Individuals who are considering plastic surgery should be sure that they have chosen a board certified surgeon recommended by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
