Many men discreet about plastic surgery
October 7, 2011
According to a recent survey conducted for the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), more than half (51 percent) of Americans approve of cosmetic plastic surgery. With this acceptance, it seems that more and more men are opting to undergo plastic surgery procedures such as liposuction, rhinoplasty and eyelid surgery.
In fact, ASAPS reports that men made up 8 percent of the total cosmetic procedures in 2010, with 142,632 opting for surgical procedures and another 607,442 choosing non-surgical procedures such as Botox injections, laser hair removal and hyaluronic acid injections.
"Men want to look good for the same reasons women seek cosmetic procedures," a Florida-based plastic surgeon recently told The Florida Times-Union. "Baby boomers want to turn back the clock no matter what gender."
Whether they just want to enhance their appearance or are trying to look more youthful to remain competitive in a difficult job market, many men do not outwardly discuss the work they have had done.
"Even though cosmetic surgery procedures are on the rise in men and some don't mind sharing their experiences, overall most men will not and choose to be more discreet," another plastic surgeon from the Sunshine State told the newspaper.
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), is recognized as the world’s leading organization devoted entirely to aesthetic plastic surgery and cosmetic medicine of the face and body. ASAPS is comprised of over 2,600 Plastic Surgeons; active members are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (USA) or by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and have extensive training in the complete spectrum of surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures. International active members are certified by equivalent boards of their respective countries. All members worldwide adhere to a strict Code of Ethics and must meet stringent membership requirements.
