Some men refuse to accept "pancake butt" sitting down
August 7, 2013
Jeff Vickers, owner of a construction company, told the New York Times that he had plastic surgery because he had "a nonexistent butt." He told his plastic surgeon, "I'm not a girl so I'm not worried about having a table back there you could sit a coffee cup on." He just wanted his pants to stay up. Vickers underwent liposuction on his abdomen and love handles and then had the fat injected into his buttocks.
As men age, they lose fat from the buttocks, face and hands and gain it in the stomach and chest. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), men had 6.2 percent of cosmetic buttock procedures in 2012, up from 2.2 percent in 1997.
Some men plump up their buttocks with underwear. Freshpair, an online store hawking buttocks-enhancing underwear, accounts for more than six percent of men's underwear sales. There is a "Body Boost Butt Trunk" with support straps woven into the fabric of boxer briefs that lift and support the buttocks. The "Go Softwear Super Padded Brief" includes 5-by-7-inch potholder-like oval pads sewn into the buttock area.
With slimmer pants, you're able to better see what lies underneath. In 2007, Bonobos, a clothing company for men, began its mission to end "khaki diaper butt" with their form-fitting pants. And a recent Men's Health article suggests that men with underdeveloped buttocks camouflage their deficit with jeans that have pocket flaps to give women something to look at.
You can try exercise, but some men say regular exercise is not enough. Michael, a 40-year-old Manhattan man, got a unique birthday present from his wife. She gifted him with an $8,500 butt augmentation in which the fat from his stomach was injected into his buttocks. Not only did he get a perkier rear end but his waist was reduced to 33 inches from 36, his abdominal muscles were visible for the first time since college and his pants stay up without a belt.
If you're considering autologous buttock augmentation, consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to get all the facts. According to ASAPS, disadvantages of fat injection include difficulty in predicting how much fat will be reabsorbed by the body and the possibility that multiple procedures may be necessary. Further, your plastic surgeon may suggest other techniques for buttock augmentation, such as buttock implants. As in most aesthetic surgeries, your physical presentation and your wishes are important deciding factors in the technique your aesthetic surgeon will recommend.
