Miami woman arrested for injecting Botox without a license

A woman from Miami-Dade County, Florida, was arrested on Tuesday, January 25, on charges of practicing without a medical license and possession with intent to sell drugs without a prescription. Police claim that she was administering permanent makeup, tattoos and Botox out of her condo in Boca Raton, reports The Palm Beach Post.

Nora Patricia Hidalgo was allegedly charging $300 for the illegal Botox injections. Police discovered her operation after one woman who had visited her condominium became infected and had to be hospitalized.

The patient, Martha Gallego, told Palm Beach County deputies that after she received a treatment from Hidalgo her face "became swollen and very hot." Hidalgo also allegedly told Gallego that she was unlicensed.

The woman had been visiting Hidalgo for eight years for permanent makeup touchups, but said she decided to turn the woman in because she didn't want anyone else to be hurt by the illegal procedures.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, all cosmetic procedures should be conducted or supervised by a board-certified plastic surgeon. The organization urges patients to choose a medical professional whom they trust, and to avoid basing their decision on price alone.
