Police arrest woman who gave fake Botox injections
July 5, 2011
A woman from Miramar, Florida, was placed under arrest on Tuesday, May 24, following reports that she injected two people with a substance she claimed was Botox. She has been charged with practicing medicine without a license and practicing health care without a license, causing injuries, according to NBC Miami.
The illegal injections allegedly took place on September 26 in a home in Miami. Diana Marcela Cardenas-Gonzalez injected two people in the face with substance she said was Botox, and received money in exchange.
In the following month, both victims suffered from masses on their faces similar to cysts. They both contacted Cardenas-Gonzalez, who instructed the women to meet her for infrared facial massages to "soften up" the substance under their skin, according to the news source.
Both victims had to visit a licensed dermatologist, and it's possible that they will require plastic surgery to correct the issue. Cardenas-Gonzalez is a native of Colombia and is now being held in the Miami-Dade detention center on an immigration hold.
This case is a testament to the importance of seeking out a board-certified plastic surgeon for any cosmetic procedure.
