New York woman arrested for performing breast enlargements out of her home

A New York City woman was arrested on Friday, January 14, for allegedly charging people up to $1,000 for illegal breast enhancement procedures. Police say the woman was offering the service out of her Bronx home, according to Reuters.

Whalesca Castillo was allegedly importing liquid silicone from the Dominican Republic, where she was born. She was apparently injecting the substance into people's breasts and buttocks, a cosmetic procedure that is prohibited in the U.S.

British Medical Journal reports on the dreaded redheaded surgical patient

There’s an old saying, “If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead.” This is especially true among doctors who claim that redheaded surgical patients have excessive bleeding, a reduced pain threshold and an increased tendency to develop hernias. The British Medical Journal (BMJ) recently published results of a scientific literature survey that searched the terms “red hair,” “pain” and “surgery” to find out what, if anything makes redheads unique surgical candidates. Teen turns to plastic surgery to cope with bullying

For years, classmates taunted teenager Erica Morgo because she had a larger-than-average nose. Morgo recently underwent cosmetic plastic surgery to help combat the bullying she encountered in school, according to ABC.

"In sixth grade I was on the bus, and a lot of boys made fun of me for having a big nose," Erica told the news source. "They would call me Pinocchio. And in school, in class, people would point it out. I felt helpless. I felt like a loser."
