Man sent back to U.S. after impersonating plastic surgeon in Dubai

A man from Tigard, Oregon, was recently returned to the United States to face drug charges after being held in Dubai last year for impersonating a plastic surgeon. Steven Moos, 41, was held in the United Arab Emirates capital after it was discovered that he was performing unsanctioned cosmetic procedures without any training, The Oregonian reports.

Book sold at auction that contains origin of rhinoplasty

A book that dates back to the 16th century was recently sold at auction, and it contains what is believed to be one of the first depictions of rhinoplasty (surgery to reshape the nose). The book, which was published in 1597, sold for £11,000 (around $16,000) to a plastic surgeon, The UK Based Daily Telegraph reports.

The growth of the recent trend for Americans to travel abroad for medical treatment may be exaggerated. There is now hard data about the frequency of American medical tourism. Brandon Alleman, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, performed a telephone survey of the companies that expedite foreign travel for medical treatment. Lynne Peeples reports on these findings for Reuters Health on December 31, 2010.

Doctor facing legal action, suspension after mistreatment of patients

A physician in Encino, California, is facing serious allegations stemming from the mistreatment of two patients, one of whom died. Dr. Ehab Aly Mohamed has been ordered not to perform any plastic surgery, use lidocaine or prescribe any narcotic analgesic until a board can review the charges, The Encino Patch reports.
