The corset trunkplasty is an alternative approach to MWL trunk contouring which can be used in a wide range of patients, from the ideal to the more complex patient with multiple skin rolls.  The procedure provides a single-stage skin resection technique that addresses the redundancy of the entire (upper and lower) abdomen and waistline.  It utilizes a combination of incisions, derived from the fleur-de-lis and reverse abdominoplasties, which can be customized to each patient for the most favorable outcomes.  It requires no pre-operative standing markings, is performed in the supine position only (no need for repositioning), utilizes a standardized vertical resection approach (workhorse of the technique), and does not require the use of post-operative drains.  An operative step-by-step procedure manual with DVD will be provided to all participants.

Desired outcomes:

  • Identify the contouring advantages of a corset trunkplasty
  • Recognize how to perform a corset trunkplasty while limiting complications
  • Recognize how to modify a corset trunkplasty to increase its versatility (address specific patient concerns such as certain areas of skin redundancy or financial constraints)
